Legacy of Hope

We have been here for over two weeks. I seems like we have been here a lifetime, yet it has flown by.
We have had so much reason to celebrate. The official opening of Beyond Limitations office in Bondo. It has been lovingly name “Ted Grant and Family, Block of Hope”. Ted is one of the reason we are all here and are doing what we are doing. We honour his memory, and offer thanks to his family, with this very special name for a very special place.
On Mageta Island we broke ground on our two and half acres of land, recently donated by a resident. It is a special site with a flourishing farm, positioned near the highest point on Mageta with views of both sides of Lake Victoria. As we gathered there on our first morning, Ben had us all hold hands and make a circle. We were many; Beyond Limitation’s Board Members, Staff and our Canadian Team. Ben was quite particular about the shape of our circle and was insistent it be perfect. When he was satisfied, he instructed the contractors to mark the circle. The reason Ben wanted it so precise was to create something special. Together we created the perfect circle for our soon to be perfect office on Mageta Island, which we will call “Circle of Hope”. Breaking ground in Kenya is serious business. We all took turns using the jembe (hoe) and worked hard to dig and start the process. We are so excited to create a place for Beyond Limitations and the community to meet. Together they will learn from each other and make changes to improve the lives of so many.
