Mikinduri Children of Hope is a proud supporter of Days for Girls.
Days for Girls is a global movement that prepares and distributes sustainable menstrual health solutions to girls who would otherwise miss school during their monthly periods.
MCOH makes sanitary kits for girls so that they may stay in school while on their periods. The regions we work in are very poor with no extra money for sanitary supplies so young girls are sent home from school while on their period. These kits are instrumental for social change for these women. They are washable and reusable for up to three years thus providing long term security for better hygiene.
These sanitary kits consist of:
- 2 shields
- 8 liners
- a face cloth
- soap
- 2 pairs of panties
- a carry bag.
Since 2015 we have delivered approximately 950 kits to young females in the schools we support. This year we were able to distribute 350 Days for Girls kits in Kenya, along with training on women’s rights. This was possible because of your support in our 2017 campaign.
Check out this link to read about our experience with Days for Girls kits in Kenya.
The kits are made by volunteers on PEI. Currently, we have five sewing groups: Bideford, Charlottetown, Vernon Bridge, Souris, and Guernsey Cove. We have over 50 volunteers involved in kit production. This program would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. Thank you!
