Blog #2

February 13, 2017 By Shannon Moore

Lying on my bed and too tired to figure out what day it is! Quite the start to three weeks of volunteering don’t you think?? Not to worry! I will recover and be great tomorrow.
Today we left Nairobi at just pass 7 am and then drove to Bondo  arriving around 4:30pm. Someone neglected to tell me there is an airport an hour from here!!!!! Joking aside, we saw some beautiful country side: Lush green trees and beautiful patch work fields in the High Lands. Travelling through many communities or towns the view was the same lots of poverty, men, women and children offering fruit, water, cookies, etc for sale to make some money. They dashed through traffic and all I can compare them to are the window washers you see in some cities. The minute your car slows down or comes to a stop they are there!
As many of you know I hate driving and although Ben was behind the wheel (they drive on the left hand side ) the passenger on the right, namely me, was doing alot of the driving. It’s a wonder I am tired tonight. So many cars passing where they shouldn’t, motorcycles and trucks everywhere and then people walking on the side of the road so close I could of had a conversation with them!  This combined with sheep, cows, dogs, and a variety of other animals grazing next to me and trucks with all your living room furniture attached to them was never ending. Ben is a great driver, so no injuries!
We stopped by the Pride Hotel where I am staying to pick Liz,  who will be helping us gather information  this week and then headed to investigate some office rental space. From there, we met Ben’s mother and a few family members who we will be seeing again this week. Liz and I are sharing a  room at the hotel and Ben is staying with family but he will join us after church tomorrow to discuss today’s visit and then off to a meeting. The real schedule begins Monday.
Time to shut down the computer! After Thursday nights airport incident I thought you might like to know I am still surviving!
