Economic Development
No organization wishes to support a Third World community for a long period of time, since there are so many other needy villages. Therefore, creating economic development opportunities is a very important aspect of any successful program.
The Eunice Brine Sewing Centre was initiated through the genrosity of her husband Joseph Brine in mid-2006.
Essentially, the sewing centre teaches young people the tailoring trade. Goods produced are sold at a profit, which is put back into the enterprise.
We have also been given title to a one acre business site in the village. We are exploring several opportunities for this centre, including housing our projects that currently utilize rented space, as well as a posha mill (corn grist mill) and a business services office including an internet cafe, and photocopying and printing services. No decisions have been made at this point.
As well, we are currently renting two pieces of agricultural land, with the crops being used to supply food to our 2 feeding programs, with any excess being sold and the profits utilized for other projects.
