Economic Development

No organization can, nor wishes, to support a Third World community for a long period of time, since there are so many other needy villages. Therefore, creating economic development opportunities is a very important aspect of our program.

The Eunice Brine Sewing Centre was initiated through the genrosity of her husband Joseph Brine in mid-2006.
Essentially, the sewing centre teaches young people the tailoring trade. In return, the goods produced are sold at a profit. The profit is used to fund other programs. Currently (Fall ‘08) a dozen students are engaged at the centre.

We have also been given title to a one acre business site in the village. We are exploring several opportunities for this centre, including housing our projects that currently utilize rented space, as well as a posha mill (corn grist mill) and a business services office including an internet cafe, and photocopying and printing services.

As well, we are currently renting additional land to grow higher value crops which can be sold and the profits utilized for other projects.
