Mikinduri Children of Hope

Kenya is a country with about 80% of the population being involved in agriculture. As a result, if we are to support their efforts to improve their lives, involvement in agriculture is a given.

Thus our first step was to hire an agricultural specialist. Francis Mutia, is an agrologist by profession and a local farmer, who utilizes the best farming practices, and techniques on his own farm.

Feeding center farms

His job essentially is to work with our three feeding centers, to grow sufficient crops of different varieties to feed the kids.

Secondarily, these acreages offer a wonderful opportunity to provide training on new techniques like drip irrigation, peddle pumps, pruning, fertilization, etc, and  introduce new varieties of crops like sweet potatoes and moringa trees.

In return for the support their kids receive at the feeding centers, the parents show up weekly to work on the crops.

It is a win-win situations for all. They are contributing to their own improved life.

Commercial Farm 

We are always trying to find ways to generate revenue and create jobs. One of these initiatives is a 19 acre commercial farm which we have leased in the Kagwuru area.

Again this is intended to be a learning center. Additionally, however, we will be experimenting with test plots of new varieties of crops and trees.

As well, jobs will be created for local labourers, which are hard to come in an area with very high unempoyment. At the same time, we are modelling for the local people methods of improving their standard of living.
