Project Updates

Mikinduri Well Sponsorship

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

This is an invitation to become part of a very exciting project.

Work has just begun to drill the first three wells in Mikinduri. They will bring clean, fresh water to the community for the very first time. The plan is to dig 11 wells around the community.

Clean water is the essential first step. Women of the area are currently travelling long distances to get water from the river,
which they carry home on their backs. But this water is polluted and has caused as many problems as it has solved. Access to clean,
fresh drinking water will give the people of Mikinduri a whole new lease on life. It will give them health and it will give them hope.

Here’s how you can help:

  • For $85, you can provide water to a family.
  • For $2550, you can buy a well that will provide clean water to thirty families.

Perhaps this is something you would like to do as a family. Or you could do it at your workplace, in lieu of a Christmas gift exchange. In either case, you will be giving a gift that will have significant consequences.

City Provides Grant for Wells

Friday, September 15th, 2006

A grant from the City of Charlottetown will allow construction to begin on three wells in Mikinduri, Kenya. In its annual budget, the City allocated $10,000 to the MIkinduri Children of Hope.
“When you see how much we have in a city like Charlottetown, and how much we take for granted, it’s impossible not to be generous to those who have so little,”said Mayor Clifford Lee, “ It’s easy to look at the problems in Africa and feel overwhelmed. But this is a concrete way the people of our community can really make a difference.”
Each of the three wells will be named in recognition of the City of Charlottetown’s contribution. City Council will choose the names at an upcoming meeting. Plaques will be affixed to the wells when a group from the Maritimes travels to Mikinduri in November.
